YMCA Camp Cory on Keuka Lake, where kids and families have been served since 1921, unveils a new solar array to decrease operating costs, which will help support financial assistance. The installation of this solar array coincides with Camp Cory’s recent communication of its centennial master plan, which entails renovations & expansions of its current facilities in order to serve generations to come.

“The money saved from installing the solar array affords us the opportunity to offer more experiences to campers and youth in our community,” said Pat Foster, Executive Director of YMCA Camp Cory, a branch of the YMCA of Greater Rochester. “We want to be able to reach as many children as we can from all backgrounds and provide them with an enriching experience. Partnerships like this play a crucial role in doing that.”

Everybody Solar, an organization dedicated to providing solar energy to nonprofits, partnered with Camp Cory for the project. With the help of fundraising, grant writing, and other partnerships, Everybody Solar was able to provide Camp Cory with a 31.93 kW solar array for free. The system installed by Geneva-based Paradise Energy Solutions is expected to provide 32,949 kWh of energy in the first year, preventing approximately 51,479 lbs of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere. This is the equivalent of 54 barrels of oil or of sequestering carbon from 386 trees annually. In addition to environmental benefits, the planned PV solar energy system is projected to save Camp Cory approximately $3,950 in the first year alone.

“The impact of this project is far-reaching,” said Myriam Scally, Director of Operations and Development, Everybody Solar, “we hope this solar array will help Camp Cory reinvest in their youth and remove financial barriers for more families to access a summer camp experience.”

In addition to Everybody Solar, many individual donors and foundations played an instrumental part in funding this project, including:

“All Points North Foundation is keenly aware of the impact COVID-19 has had on nonprofits and is pleased to have been able to provide funding to Everybody Solar enabling ongoing operations and the completion of a solar installation at Camp Cory, which serves thousands of kids and teens annually,” said Laura Staich, Executive Director at All Points North Foundation.

“Enphase is proud to work with Everybody Solar to support this amazing project and help Camp Cory take control of their energy future,” said Dave Ranhoff, chief commercial officer at Enphase Energy. “We hope our donation will give more families an opportunity to take advantage of the wonderful resources Camp Cory has to offer while serving to build a more sustainable planet for everyone.”

“It’s a great honor to work with the team at Camp Cory and Everybody Solar to bring this project to life. We’re excited to play a small part in helping the camp save money and continue their mission of helping kids in our community,” said Cory Pindroh, Branch Manager at Paradise Energy Solutions.

We have a ton video interviews and additional content on our YouTube page. Recently we debuted Power Forward! -- a collaboration with BayWa r.e. to discuss higher level industry topics as well as best practices / trends for running a solar business today.

Our longer running side project is The Pitch -- in which we have awkward discussions with solar manufacturers and suppliers about their new technology and ideas so that you don't have to. We've discusses everything from residential rail-less deck attaching and home solar financing to large-scale energy storage value stacking and utility-driven new home solar + storage microgrids.

We also post our Project of the Year announcements there! Interviews with this year's winners will be up starting the week of Nov. 8. Head there and subscribe today to stay on top of all this extra stuff.
