Panasonic is unveiling an updated EverVolt home energy storage system design today. This EverVolt 2.0 allows for more customization and features a convenient modular footprint and weatherproof design.

“Th current version of EverVolt is only indoor rated – this new EverVolt is outdoor rated, with a bigger inverter, capacity-wise and throughput-wise,” says Mukesh Sethi, director of solar and energy storage at Panasonic. The bigger inverter also means more PV going to the battery.

“The biggest change is batteries are LFP,” Sethi says. “They give us a better temperature range, all of their advantages make it easier to earn the outdoor rating.”

In California especially, many customers prefer the outdoor-rated energy storage system because they don’t have a basement or garage. Panasonic is not phasing out NMC batteries, though, or the EverVolt 1.0, it will just “depend on the needs of the system. We’ll have both options available.”

EverVolt 1.0 had a separate inverter for AC or DC, which was a bit difficult to manage. EverVolt 2.0 comes with a hybrid inverter, so one system to do both AC and DC coupling. The max PV for the DC coupling was limited to 6 or 7 kW depending on modules being used.

Just as importantly, EverVolt 2.0 has the hardware for future integrations with VPP providers and aggregators.

“There’s a lot of things going on that we’re working toward that this new EverVolt is ideal for,” Sethi said.

Capacity: The new EverVolt 2.0 provides continuous power output of 7.6 kW off-grid and 9.6 kW with grid, enough to power an average household load, and boasts two energy storage capacity options: 17.1 kWh or 25.65 kWh per system (usable capacity). Up to 12 kW of solar can be tied to the EverVolt inverter – for both supplying to the loads and charging the batteries.

Hardware: The system can be AC- and DC-coupled, so it can work with both new and existing solar energy systems. EverVolt 2.0 is comprised of two primary components: the floor-standing battery cabinet and a hybrid smart inverter with 4 MPPTs and offers simple installation and flexible placement either inside or outside — yes, EverVolt 2.0 comes with an outdoor protection rating of IP55 (NEMA 3R).

Other features of the Panasonic EverVolt 2.0 Home Battery include:

• A modular design. Up to three systems can be stacked together to obtain more power output and energy storage capacity
• Multiple operating modes, including back-up mode, residential mode, time-of-use mode and custom modes which can be set by the system owner
• Field serviceability
• A completely new mobile app that allows homeowners to monitor the system data and set the operating mode
• An optional wireless color LCD display, which provides visibility into battery monitoring data and control over system settings

EverVolt 2.0 is protected by Panasonic’s 10-year product and performance warranty when installed by a Certified EverVolt Installer. The EverVolt 10-year warranty is one of the best in its class for homeowners. Reminder that Panasonic also has partnerships with Lumin and Span for load management and smart circuits.

“Innovations in energy storage have never been more exciting — and necessary — than they are today,” Sethi said. “As part of our ongoing commitment to providing top-notch solar and storage solutions for homeowners, the Panasonic EverVolt 2.0 boasts new features that not only meet the needs of energy-conscious homeowners but supports broader sustainability goals. The recently announced federal goals for nationwide solar adoption, paired with consumers’ increasing desire for resiliency, only underscore the necessity for solar and storage solutions like this.”
