The Pearland Chamber of Commerce, which is located at 6117 Broadway St, focuses mainly on business promotion and growth. Its primary goal is to promote local businesses, the community, and the chamber itself.

Just a few months ago, when the Covid-19 outbreak started, the Pearland Chamber of Commerce held a coronavirus information live stream.

 

This was a community forum and informational panel on the latest coronavirus updates and took place at Knights of Columbus Hall, located at 2320 Hatfield Road. At the forum, the panel discussed the main source and spread of the virus, the current situation in the United States, how the pandemic has affected businesses, the severity of the illness, and what would happen if this outbreak became worse.

 

The main members on the panel consisted of U.S. Congressman Pete Olson, two doctors who specialized in travel medicine and infectious diseases, and representatives from the Brazoria County Health Department, the city of Pearland, Pearland ISD, and Alvin ISD.

 

The good thing about this forum was that it was open to everyone. However, it was live streamed on Facebook so everyone can view it safely at home.

 

Texas Return to Work Initiative

 

A couple of weeks ago, several organizations in Texas launched the Texas Return to Work Initiative. This initiative includes a survey along with a resource guide that is meant to help Texans return to work quickly and safely.

 

This initiative was started by The Texas Association of Business, the Texas Economic Development Council, the Pearland Chamber of Commerce Executive, and the North Texas Commission.

 

The sole purpose was to help business owners understand which resources are available at their disposal during the pandemic and how they can effectively utilize these resources to grow or maintain their business.

 

Carlton Schwab, who is the president and CEO of the Texas Economic Development Council, said, “Texas economic developers are on the front line of recovery and seeing different problems—and solutions—around the state.”

 

He also added, “The Texas Return to Work Initiative will help establish a common perspective of the overall landscape, assess and leverage available resources and develop effective and sustained response to local, regional and statewide challenges.”

 

The Texas Return to Work Initiative resource guide includes a complete list of the compiled resources for employers and the employees. This list includes resources that can help with legal issues, mental health, and even child care. This resource guide is periodically updated as the pandemic goes on.
